Cher, 79, Reveals Why A 40-Year Age Gap Has Never Been An Issue With Her 39-Year-Old Boyfriend

At 79, the world’s longest-reigning pop superstar, Cher, has opened up about her relationship with a man four decades younger — and she says age has never been an obstacle. In a refreshingly candid chat with CBS host Gayle King, the legendary performer shared what keeps their connection strong despite constant public scrutiny.

Cher has been dating music executive Alexander “AE” Edwards, 39, for three years. The couple is frequently spotted together at events, often joined by Edwards’ young son. Even with their age difference sparking constant commentary online, the Believe singer remains unfazed and unapologetic about her romance.

Interestingly, when Edwards was born, Cher was in the middle of her third major career resurgence, making waves both in music and film. That same year, 1987, she appeared in The Witches of Eastwick and Suspect, solidifying her transition from pop royalty to Hollywood star — just months after AE entered the world.

Despite their vast age and life experience gap, Cher responded to King’s question about dating a younger man with her trademark humor and confidence: “Whatever. They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast.”

According to Cher, AE has never been bothered by their difference in years. She shared that he once told her: “He just says, ‘You know, you get older, but your spirit is younger.'”

After six decades in entertainment — from Sonny & Cher to her solo stardom — Cher said their conversations are full of laughter and shared interests. “We laugh all the time, you know? I just love him,” she added warmly, hinting that their easy chemistry keeps things light and fun.

Opening up further about their bond, Cher said: “I think he’s beautiful. He’s really talented. He’s one of the most talented persons I’ve ever met.”

When asked in past interviews why she tends to date younger men, she responded bluntly and with her signature wit: “The reason I go out with young men is because men my age or older, well, now they’re all dead.”

Another major part of their relationship is Edwards’ six-year-old son, Slash, who has appeared alongside his father and Cher on red carpets. Their blended family dynamic has become a key part of her life, and she clearly adores being part of it.

The conversation took place during a CBS segment promoting her new ice cream line, Cherlato, which features flavors crafted by Cher herself. She was quick to clarify that this isn’t just another celebrity vanity project, but something she’s genuinely passionate about.

She told King with sincerity: “First, I want to say this: I get offered to do everything. I just don’t want to because people feel that I wouldn’t lie to them. I don’t ever want that to change.”
