Dakota Johnson Shuts Down Question About Why She Wears ‘Naked’ Dresses On Red Carpets

Fifty Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson didn’t hesitate to clap back when asked about her bold and revealing red carpet fashion choices during a recent interview.

The 36-year-old actress has made headlines many times for her daring wardrobe looks at high-profile events.

She’s hardly alone, though — stars like Zendaya, Zoë Kravitz, and Bella Hadid have also embraced sheer, form-fitting, and so-called “naked” dresses on the red carpet.

While some of these looks push the limits of what’s considered modest, others are celebrated as artistic and empowering.

Just last month, Johnson wore a long-sleeved, high-neck black Gucci gown that turned heads for being completely see-through — proving she’s unafraid to make a statement through her style.

In a recent interview with Vogue Germany, Johnson was asked directly about her fashion choices, including whether she ever worries her outfits might come across as “too sexy.”

The interviewer put it bluntly: “Over the years, you’ve made some revealing fashion choices. Do you ever worry about whether a naked dress might be ‘too sexy’?”

Her response was refreshingly straightforward — and left no room for misinterpretation. “I really don’t care.”

Johnson made it clear that confidence and comfort guide her fashion decisions far more than outside opinions ever could.

She went on to elaborate, saying: “I’ve been able to wear some of the most beautiful dresses, and I feel beautiful in them, so I wear them. Sometimes those dresses look good on me. But there are also some we’ve tried on that didn’t look good at all.”

“It depends on the shape, the finish, the color, and everything else. So if I find a beautiful dress that I feel comfortable in, of course I want to wear it! And it’s fun to wear a sexy dress.”

Johnson also reflected on how her upbringing shaped her relationship with her body.

She explained that her mother, actress Melanie Griffith, was always open and honest about body positivity and self-acceptance — lessons that continue to influence her today.

“She taught us how to take care of our bodies and love them, and that our bodies are beautiful,” she shared.

“And I think that’s something really important for a young girl because we’re constantly told that we’re not good enough.

“And if you’re not told from a young age by the woman you look up to the most that you’re perfect and smart and special and strong and brave, it can really break you.”

“It’s hard to re-teach yourself that love later on. That was a huge gift she gave me.”
