Texas Democratic Representative Al Green has once again captured attention by initiating his first impeachment effort of 2025 against former President Donald Trump. Renowned for his three impeachment attempts during Trump’s initial term, Green returned to the House floor delivering a passionate speech that condemned Trump’s recent comments regarding the ongoing situation in Gaza.
In a fervent address, Green accused Trump of trivializing what he referred to as “ethnic cleansing” in Gaza. “Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is not a joke, particularly when it comes from the President of the United States,” Green asserted. His statements highlighted a broader denunciation of both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Green did not shy away from criticizing Netanyahu, claiming that, considering the historical persecution of Jewish individuals, the Prime Minister should feel a sense of shame for permitting such remarks. “Understanding the history of his people,” Green remarked, “to stand there and allow such things to be expressed” is intolerable.
The congressman stressed the global impact of the U.S. presidency, cautioning that Trump’s statements resonate beyond national boundaries. “The most powerful individual in the world… possesses the capacity to refine what he articulates,” Green noted, voicing concern over the normalization of incendiary rhetoric from such a prominent position.
