Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, 25, has faced intense controversy after being disqualified from the 2023 World Championships over claims that she failed gender eligibility tests. Despite the International Boxing Association (IBA) questioning her gender due to her male XY chromosomes, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed her to compete in the Paris Olympics, where she won gold. This sparked backlash, with critics, including Donald Trump, calling for her to be banned from women’s boxing.
Trump signed an executive order targeting Khelif, accusing her of “stealing” the women’s gold medal. Khelif, however, dismissed the criticism, stating that she is not transgender and refusing to be intimidated. She sees her Olympic victory as a powerful response to her critics.
Khelif has also filed lawsuits against Elon Musk and J.K. Rowling for cyber-harassment, stating that the negativity affected her and her family, especially her mother. Despite the pressure, Khelif remains determined to defend her title at the 2028 Olympics.
