Patricia Williams lovingly photographed her albino son, Redd, born in 2012, but faced a shocking response when she shared the photos. At two months old, Redd’s eye movement led to a diagnosis of Oculocutaneous Albinism Type One (OCA1), a rare condition affecting 1 in 17,000 people.
When Redd’s younger brother, Rockwell, was born in 2018 with the same condition, Patricia’s photos of him were turned into memes, leading to online bullying. Determined to raise awareness, Patricia and her family embraced their children’s condition and advocated against bullying.
Though initially concerned about the challenges Redd and Rockwell might face, such as sun sensitivity and potential blindness, the family adapted. Redd underwent surgery for his eye condition and thrived at a public school, where his peers accepted him. Patricia’s efforts to educate others about albinism gained her widespread support, especially after a video of Rockwell at school went viral in 2023.
Today, both boys are flourishing, and Patricia continues to raise awareness about albinism, dispelling common myths and encouraging understanding.
