Woman Turns Boeing Plane Into Fully Functional Home

In 1993, after losing her home and husband, Jo Ann Ussery transformed a decommissioned Boeing 727 into a luxurious home for her family in Benoit, Mississippi. Struggling with limited funds, Ussery bought the plane for $2,000 and spent under $30,000 refurbishing it.

She turned the 1,500-square-foot interior into a spacious living space with three bedrooms, a kitchen, a laundry room, and even a master bathroom in the cockpit overlooking a lake. Ussery did all the work herself, living in the plane until 1999 when she opened it as a museum. Tragically, while being transported, the plane fell off its carriage and was destroyed.
