Although the Golden Globes are centered on celebrating film and television, the red carpet often draws just as much attention as the awards themselves.
Viewers tuning in from home watched closely as major stars arrived, many wearing bold and eye-catching looks designed to stand out on one of Hollywood’s biggest nights.
The Hunger Games actor wore a sheer Givenchy gown designed by Sarah Burton, detailed with pink, ivory, and green floral embroidery that gave the dress its own distinct feel.
While the look prompted mixed reactions, a large number of fans took to social media to speak up in support of Lawrence and her fashion choice.
A second viewer added: “True. I actually like it.”
Another commented: “It is a naked dress, but it’s the most beautiful naked dress I’ve ever seen! And she has the body to wear it. So stunning!”
“Jennifer Lawrence looks tastefully sexy yet romantic at the same time in this sheer Givenchy dress that reminds me of Halle Berry’s Ellie Saab dress for Oscars in 2002. Excellent colour palette for Jennifer. My favorite look so far.”
Lawrence later joked about the outfit herself while speaking on the red carpet, laughing about how exposed she felt while planning to attend the after-parties.
Ahead of the Golden Globes, Lawrence had also spoken about her approach to filming intimate scenes in her acting work.
Talking to People about working with Robert Pattinson, she explained: “It was actually easier that way, because Rob and I did not know each other. Which is kind of better, you know?”
The 35-year-old then recalled filming a particularly unusual moment in her latest project with Pattinson, Die My Love.
“It was these actors, and they’re attacking each other like tigers,” she said, adding: “And we were like, ‘OK, yeah,’ and she was like, ‘Can you do it naked, yeah?’ [imitating director Lynne Ramsay’s Scottish accent]. We were like, ‘Oh, OK,’ and that was the first day on set.”
