Dem Gov. Moore Says Trump Should Get Credit For Securing Border

During the broadcast of Fox News Channel’s Special Report on Friday, Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D), who has been identified as a possible contender for the 2028 presidential election, recognized that President Donald Trump and his administration merit acknowledgment for their initiatives aimed at securing the border.

“I believe we all understand that the solution lies in securing the border and ensuring that violent criminals are removed from our communities,” Moore stated to anchor Bret Baier.

“And you acknowledge the Trump administration’s role in securing the border, correct?” Baier inquired for further clarification.

“Absolutely. However, it is crucial that we ensure we are adhering to the Constitution in this matter,” Moore elaborated. “We have observed a significant effort in border security, which is of utmost importance.

“Nevertheless, I also recognize that the notion of imposing quotas or arbitrary figures, such as deporting 3,000 individuals daily, lacks a foundation in data,” he continued. “In reality, this approach does not target violent criminals. Instead, it affects individuals like those I have encountered on the Eastern Shore, who report that their chicken workers are no longer attending work, or the case of an employee from Ecuador, a single father with a child who has special needs, who has recently been deported.

Moore was also vague regarding whether undocumented immigrants should be eligible for benefits funded by U.S. taxpayers, such as Medicaid.

“There is an article in The Washington Post today discussing the significant bill and its implications for Maryland, particularly concerning Medicaid. It mentions that at least 60,000 immigrant enrollees, including refugees and asylum seekers, who are currently covered in Maryland, will lose their coverage due to the new regulations. … Are you comfortable with tens of thousands of undocumented immigrants receiving Medicaid in your state?” Baier questioned.

“What I understand is that due to the large, impressive bill, approximately a quarter of a million individuals are on the verge of losing their health care. Furthermore, I am aware that this bill will result in a reduction of about a quarter of a billion dollars for rural hospitals within the state of Maryland…” he stated before Baier interrupted him.

“I understand your point, but my inquiry pertains to this matter. They are attempting to remove illegal immigrants from the Medicaid rolls. Are you in favor of illegal immigrants receiving Medicaid?” the anchor insisted.

“I fully support the notion that we must address a fundamentally flawed immigration system,” the Democratic governor replied before Baier interjected once more.

“However, we are currently in this situation. We lack a comprehensive bill. That is the reality. Yet, they are attempting to clean the rolls here,” Baier continued.

Moore hesitated again, however:

“This underscores my argument, as we continue to observe these makeshift solutions, which, to be frank, result in significant challenges for our states and jurisdictions, because we are not implementing a comprehensive immigration strategy. If we had a comprehensive immigration plan, we would not need to rely on these piecemeal frameworks that, frankly, have numerous negative impacts on many of our states and economies.

“I will not press this issue further. However, had the large, impressive bill not been enacted, those 60,000 illegal immigrants would still be receiving Medicaid in Maryland, and you would be fine with that,” Baier remarked.

“We would — we still require comprehensive immigration reform, regardless of the circumstances — because what I understand from the large, impressive bill is that we are now attempting to determine how to support 250,000 individuals who are about to lose their health care, knowing that no state possesses the resources to manage that,” Moore stated.
