After an unexpected downpour, an elderly woman was soaked. The manager of a prominent café booted her out after she sought safety there. What occurs next shocks the pompous worker.
A torrential downpour caught Linda Meyers on her way to supper. Her well-kept hair was moist and on her face since she didn’t have an umbrella. After becoming damp, her blouse and jacket appeared old.
Her nearest establishment was a popular café frequented by celebrities. As she approached the entryway, the porter stopped her.
Ma’am, this café is exclusive. Entering requires a reservation,” he said, looking at her head-to-toe. He grumbled, “It seems you can hardly afford to dine in here, too.”
Offended by the insult, she urged the porter to summon the restaurant management. The management agreed with the porter and refused to allow her in.
I’m entertaining over 100 guests, ma’am. Don’t squander time. Linda was advised by the manager, whose nameplate read “Simon,” to leave.
“I need a place to stay until the rain stops. I’ll order,” she insisted.
I can’t allow you in looking like that. The visitors will be scared away, Simon shook his head. The lady departed to locate another waiting spot.
The café owner was present when Simon arrived to work the following day. He quickly summoned Simon. “This day is special. My buddy and his wife are significant guests. They may acquire this eatery. However, everything must be perfect.”
Simon instructed the waiters on how to prepare for their VIP visitors’ arrival. Evening, the owner summoned Simon to their table.
Let me present our management. He enhances our team. The owner stated he is courteous, attentive, compassionate, and helpful and understands his work. She turned to him with a grin.
“Very nice. Linda responded, “I can see that he is exactly as you described him.”
The manager was appalled when he realized the lady was the one he harshly excluded the night before. Linda went to the café owner after witnessing his expression.
“Your restaurant and staff are wonderful. “My husband and I are happy to buy the cafe,” she remarked.
Linda and her husband started work the following day. They wanted to see how the café worked and meet their new hires.
In front of Simon, Linda delivered dreadful news. Simon, my husband and I have demoted you to waiter. She said, “We don’t think you treated me the other night like a customer.”
Simon began serving immediately after receiving an apron and tray. Though ashamed, he didn’t want to lose his work.
Some days later, a destitute lady visited the café. She ordered a sandwich and hot tea at a table. Simon gave her the bill after eating.
“Oh dear,” the elderly lady muttered, searching her handbag. I must have left my wallet at home. I’m sorry. She stated she would wash dishes or clean the restaurant to reimburse you.
Shaking his head, Simon. Ma’am, don’t worry. He smiled and offered to pay your bill this time.
The lady thanked Simon, who answered, “It’s no problem. Help each other. Due to her kindness, the new restaurant owner granted me a second opportunity a few days ago. To emulate her. I believe in karma.”
“I think you will become a manager again,” she said. Simon wondered how the lady knew about his demotion. At that time, Linda approached the table.
“This woman is my friend. I wanted to test your lesson learning. Happy to hear you passed the exam. Linda tapped him on the back and said, “You can resume your managerial duties immediately.”
Simon was glad. Having never witnessed such generosity in anybody, he was pleased that Linda offered him another opportunity to succeed at work.
Simon has worked with a grin since then. He enjoyed his work because the new café owners gave him confidence. He attentively cared for his workers and clients, making the café more successful.
What can this narrative teach us?
We shouldn’t judge people by looks. The porter and Simon judged Linda by her appearance, unaware that she would control their firm.
People deserve second chances. Since Simon liked his work, Linda gave him another opportunity.
Tell your family this tale. It may inspire and cheer them up.
