Netflix has built a reputation for delivering edge-of-your-seat content, and this drama is no exception. It’s already been streamed for a massive 13 million hours.
With so many shows available, it’s easy to miss a hidden gem—but this one is finally getting the spotlight it deserves.
Set between 866 and 878 AD, the story follows Uhtred, played by Alexander Dreymon. He’s a nobleman raised by Vikings in 9th-century England, trying to figure out where he truly belongs.
But everything shifts when the Great Heathen Army lands in England, shaking the fragile peace between the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons.

The series is adapted from Bernard Cornwell’s popular novels, The Saxon Stories. The show is called The Last Kingdom, and even though its film follow-up Seven Kings Must Die dropped in 2023, many fans are only just now discovering the franchise.
Over on Reddit, one user got the conversation going in the R/BestOfNetflix community by asking: “What TV shows had you so hooked that you couldn’t stop watching episode after episode?”
They added: “I’m talking about the kind of shows where you sit down planning to watch just one episode… and suddenly it’s 3AM and you’ve finished half the season.”
A third chimed in: “I was so happy when Netflix completed the series and adapted the last three books,”, and another added: “Me too! It’s my favorite show. But [the movie] felt rushed.”

The third season even hit a perfect 100% score. One viewer couldn’t help but rave: “I’m obsessed. Never seen a show this interesting and epic. No way to describe how it feels to watch this series again and again, specially Season 3 episode 9!”
Another said: “This series just keeps getting better as the years go by. If this type of genre is your taste, this should be on your watchlist.”
If you’re curious, all five seasons of The Last Kingdom plus its film sequel Seven Kings Must Die are now streaming on Netflix, ready for your next binge session.
