The billionaire, who’s also the head of Tesla and SpaceX, has repeatedly warned that society is facing a serious threat—not from overpopulation, but from a dramatic population decline.
Back in 2022, Musk posted to Twitter emphasizing that this issue, in his opinion, could be more dangerous for humanity than climate change.
“Mark these words.”
“And I do think global warming is a major risk.”
He said to Fridman: “A massive amount of thinking, like truly stupendous amount of thinking, has gone into sex – without purpose, without procreation, which is actually quite a silly action in the absence of procreation.”
“It’s a bit silly, so why are you doing it? Because it makes the limbic system happy – that’s why.”

“A lot of computation has gone into, ‘how can I do more of that’, with the procreation not even being a factor.”
People had plenty to say in the comments section under Fridman’s YouTube video. One person chimed in with: “Elon was inferring that jer*ing off is silly hahah.”
And a third threw in some humor with: “If solving mathematical problems rendered a climax like that of a sexual orgasm, I’m pretty sure the human species would have a lot more mathematicians!”
Meanwhile, there’s been renewed focus on Musk’s personal life thanks to leaked private text messages between him and political commentator Ashley St Clair.
She claims to be the mother of his 13th child, and their conversations give more insight into how he thinks about reproduction.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Musk reportedly offered St Clair a large financial deal of $15 million upfront and $100,000 per month in child support in return for her silence about their child’s birth. However, she turned down the offer.
St Clair also shared some of their text conversations with the outlet, including exchanges from when she was still pregnant.
Musk has been sounding the alarm about falling birthrates for years. In fact, the same year he met St Clair 2023—he tweeted another warning, saying: “Population collapse is an existential problem for humanity, not overpopulation!”
